Bitter Jester Creative, Inc, the official documentary crew of the Spaceward Games, is working on a full length documentary about the competition.
Here are a few clips from the project.
(click on the images to watch the video clips)
Project Overview
"This clip is just a snippet of the many complexities involved in the
competition and serves as an introduction to both the visionary future
and hard realities of this fast-paced and sometimes hazardous challenge."
Character Introduction
"This clip introduces some of the participants involved in
the Spaceward Games and encompasses just a handful of people we have
interviewed. Less a cohesive narrative and more a slice of the various
personalities we will follow throughout our documentary, this piece is
the first step in telling this incredible story."
Special thanks to Bitter Jester Creative for letting us share these videos.

The KC Space Pirates is a team entered in the 2008 Space Elevator games climber competition. The competition is put on by the Spaceward Foundation
NASA has put up a total of two million dollars in prize money!!
The competition is, in summary, a vertical drag race straight up a 1 kilometer cable. We must climb the cable with no fuel or batteries. The climbers are unmanned, and may only be powered by beamed energy. We did well last year but fell short of the money. The competition is developing technology to make it possible for everyone to go to space.
For more information visit Spaceward.org or visit their FAQ pages to learn more about the competition and the space elevator in general.

The New York Times
Magazine did an article on garage inventors and how they may revive the space
program. It's a lot to live up to. The really awesome part is that we are (Or
more specifically me in my messy garage) on the cover. I would have liked to emphasize
my team members more, as "WE" got "US" here. The magazine
is an insert in the Sunday paper, which has a circulation of about 2 Million.
That is bigger than Popular Science or Rolling Stone that each have about 1.5
million. Unless you figure that half the NYT subscribers just toss the magazine
after they read the funnies.
